The Man-powered Hackertrucks can be fitted with an adjusted cab or be realized in the so-called ‘Tornado’ model, which is characterized by a rotatable cab at high visibility, a woodchip ejection fan in the centre of the chassis, and the possibility of moving the vehicle along the woodpile without interrupting the movement of the drum.
The Volvo-powered Hackertrucks, which are significantly more powerful than the Man ones, can be fitted with an adjusted cab and eventually have the option of remote driving from the operator's station. When required, especially with 1000 mm chipping drums, the truck can also be configured in its Tridem version, from 6x4 - 650 hp to 8x4 - 750 hp.
The robust hydraulic fan, standard for this model, allows a dynamic speed control. With dry material, it is possible to work at low operating speed, reducing the consumption and the dust generated by processing. With wet material, such as that produced by green maintenance operations, the revolutions can be increased, keeping the evacuation of wood chips smooth and avoiding clogging.
These chippers are designed with a conical shaped feeding inlet, a feature that, combined with the complete opening of the superior roller, allows even very bulky logs and branches to be processed in an effective way thus increasing productivity.
The closed in feeding chain carries the material to be chipped up to the counter-knife, a design feature that eliminates the problem of the accumulation of wasted material under the machine after each movement, thus avoiding the need to slow down the machinery for cleaning the working site. The recovery augers, positioned under the terminal part of the feeding chain, collect any eventual excess of chipped material and convey it to the ejection unit through the exhaust fan.
The cutting system used by Pezzolato consists of a closed drum with staggered sections equipped with knives, a counter-knife, and an interchangeable calibration grid. This system guarantees the production of quality wood chips, as the closed drum allows the cutting length of the wood chips to be kept fixed and constant. The wood, by the action of the knife, is transformed into chips of homogenous grain size, which are able to pass through the calibration grid immediately after cutting.
Three different drums are available for the hackertrucks, according to the production requirements of the customer: Evolution, Heavy Duty, and Heavy Duty with single/double cutting configuration.
Worth mentioning is the collapsible counter-knife: this system reduces to the minimum any damage caused by the accidental entering of foreign bodies (not biomass) into the chipper.
For the hackertrucks equipped with a 1000 mm diameter drum, the collapsible counter-knife is also available in its hydraulic version: mounted on a support, fixed to a hydraulic cylinder and connected to a nitrogen-filled lung. Should metal, stone, concrete ... enter the machine, the lung discharges immediately, causing the opening of the counter-knife and thus leaving space to the foreign body. While the counter-knife opens, the feeding is reversed, reducing any damage to the machine.
